Interpreting stacked bar plots
If you care about percentages rather than counts, then stacked bar plots are often a good choice of plot.
The plot shows data from the Health Survey for England. Adults aged 65 or more were asked how many "activities of daily living" (day-to-day tasks) they needed assistance with. The bars are split by sex (Men / Women) and age group (65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+).
The color of each segment shows the number of activities where assistance was needed: dark purple = 0 (no assistance needed), teal = 1, yellow = 2 or more.
