Microsoft Copilot

1. Microsoft Copilot

Welcome back! Let's look at the web version of Microsoft Copilot and discuss how to write effective prompts.

2. Where can you locate Copilot?

We can access Microsoft Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com or from the Copilot icon on Windows.

3. Where can you locate Copilot?

Copilot is also built-in and located as an icon at the top of the Microsoft Edge browser.

4. How to use Microsoft Copilot?

To use Microsoft Copilot, we can click the icon in the toolbar and ask a question. If we ask "What is Microsoft Copilot?", we receive an explanation along with some suggested follow-up questions. We can continue the conversation by asking follow-up questions as Copilot remembers the context. Copilot provides more suggestions and options on how to continue the conversation.

5. Vague prompt vs clear prompt

To get the best results from Copilot, asking straightforward, well-structured questions is important; the more specific we are, the better the outcome. Imagine walking into a café and saying, "A coffee, please." We'd likely get a plain black coffee, which may not be what we wanted. To get exactly what we're looking for, we need to be more specific: "I'd like a medium iced latte with oat milk." The clearer our request, the better the result.

6. Prompts for Microsoft Copilot

The same applies when using Copilot. Writing effective prompts is about making sure Copilot understands what we need, why it's important, which details to focus on, and how to deliver the response. Let's illustrate this using the prompt, "Tell me about AI". Copilot might give us a very general answer.

7. Prompting right

To be more specific, we could ask, "Tell me about the current applications of AI in healthcare."

8. Prompting right

Next, giving context helps Copilot focus. "Tell me about the current applications of AI in healthcare, as I need to prepare for a presentation."

9. Prompting right

Then, we tell Copilot which aspects to focus on. We might say, "Focus on patient diagnostics and AI-driven treatments, and skip the history of AI."

10. Prompting right

Finally, specifying the format helps Copilot respond appropriately: "Summarize the applications in bullet points."

11. Final prompt

Structuring our prompt with what, why, which, and how leads to better results with Copilot, like giving a detailed coffee order gets us exactly what we want. Here is our well-structured final prompt.

12. Copilot can describe an image

Microsoft Copilot can also describe images. For example, we can ask Copilot to explain a project management diagram.

13. Copilot can describe an image

When an image is uploaded, Copilot analyzes it and explains it in detail.

14. Copilot can describe an image

Additionally, Copilot proposes follow-up questions, with suggestions on what to ask next.

15. Summarizing Microsoft Edge

In Microsoft Edge, Copilot can summarize a webpage, helping us grasp key points without reading the entire content.
