Copilot in Word is a powerful tool that boosts productivity by helping with tasks like creating text, formatting documents, conducting research, and answering questions.

To start Copilot in Word, we can press the ALT and I keys to see the box where to type our prompt.

5. Create with Copilot

Copilot can help us get started. Here, we want to create a project proposal for a campaign. We use the prompt "Create a project proposal for a new marketing campaign" and provide the necessary details.

We will get a well-structured report as a starting point and can make changes to match our business requirements. It is crucial that we check the content for accuracy to verify that the information is correct.

If we need to make changes, we can use the prompt "Change the timeline to three months and update the plan according to the new timeline." Copilot will make the adjustments and provide us with a revised version.

We can then review and tweak the rest of the document further. Once we're satisfied with the updates, we select "Keep it", and continue working on the report.

When using Copilot in Word, we often need to reference information from other documents. We can instruct Copilot to pull the relevant details from this vast collection of files, saving us time from switching between documents. We can reference PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, or Excel sheets to create a brand-new report that captures key points from these sources.

Copilot can also help edit text in a report. To make changes, we highlight the section we want to improve, and select the Copilot icon that appears. We'll be presented with different options: for example, we can write a prompt to tell Copilot what to do with our text, or auto rewrite the selected section.

We can directly provide instructions on the improvements we want to make to the selected text.

Copilot will provide the revised version under the original text for comparison. If we're happy with the changes, we can click "Keep it" to accept them. If not, we can generate another output.

By clicking on the Copilot icon on the toolbar, we can open a chat to ask questions about the document.

Technical documents can be lengthy and time-consuming to review. We can ask Copilot to summarize a document and even specify that we want it summarized in 3 to 4 sentences.

Copilot provides the summary along with citations, so we can see where the information in the document came from.
