Transforming organizations through digital transformation
1. Transforming organizations through digital transformation
Digital transformation can impact both individuals and organizations. In this chapter, we want to focus on the organization.2. Organizational impact
Organizations can spend millions of dollars to transform digitally, and they do this to find a benefit of some kind, which we have shared in a previous chapter. Organizations need a holistic approach that empowers the individual and the organization to transform digitally. To do this, we can look to the intertwined web that works through the 3 Cs of digital transformation, the different roles within digitally transforming organizations, the triad of digital transformation (data, people, processes), and how digital fluency can help the organization succeed.3. Breaking silos
A key to ensuring the transformation is booming is avoiding siloed work within digital transformation initiatives. As we know, the three Cs of digital transformation are curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. We must ensure that each of the roles within digital transformation deploys the 3 Cs each. We can’t have individuals, teams, and organizations forgetting 3 Cs. By creating a holistic culture where the 3 Cs thrive through the different roles, we can see that the adoption of digital transformation will be met with the right mindset. Mindset is crucial to success. Let’s look at an example.4. Improvement
Suppose you are a data engineer tasked with building the data modeling for your organization as it tries to harness the power of data more and take advantage of this valuable asset. By having curiosity, you, as the engineer, are asking questions about the data model. You are working to make the data model easy to tie back to the business goals. This can help the triad of digital transformation, data, people, and processes, as people look to acquire data to help make decisions and improve their roles.5. Triad of change
The triad of digital transformation, data, people, and processes, is crucial for all the people and roles in the organization, and the organization as a whole. Each function is a part of this. With the “people” side, each position will be granted access to the data through the democratization of data. Finally, the processes are impacted directly by the digital transformation.6. Digital fluency
Digital fluency is the overall communication around digital transformation. Digital fluency impacts all aspects mentioned here with digital transformation. As individuals can speak the language of digital transformation and are comfortable doing so, curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking can thrive. Individuals can ask questions about their critical thinking. They can find creativity in their answers. They can think critically about the data and communicate their findings. A holistic approach to digital transformation is needed for organizations to survive. With a holistic approach done correctly, organizations can ensure they aren’t missing any gaps or holes in the work.7. Let's practice!
