Roles within digital transformation
1. Roles within digital transformation
Now that we have a good understanding of digital transformation, its impact on an organization, and the role of the individual, let's focus on the common roles that play a part in digital transformation.2. Roles within digital transformation
Technically every role within an organization will play some part in the digital transformation. The roles can interact together, helping the organization to find more success and help drive the digital transformation successfully. If they don’t interact, we can create siloed work, and that can be a hindrance to digital transformation. Let’s focus our attention on data and analytics, which play a vital part in the digital transformation. Once we cover the common roles within data and analytics, we will extrapolate to other roles with the digital transformation. Those roles are: Analyst, Scientist, Engineer, Developer, Business User or Consumer. What do these roles do? Well, let’s jump in, and as we do, I want you to see how you would fit into this picture. Let’s jump into the first role.3. Analyst
Digital transformation role, the analyst. What does an analyst do? By definition, an analyst is: “someone whose job is to study or examine something in detail, to discover or understand more about it and often to make predictions relating to it.” An analyst is a person who may now do the advanced data and analytical work, but works in the digital or data space, helping drive information and data to make decisions. Think about your role, are you an analyst?4. Scientist
The next role is the scientist, like a data scientist. OK, I think we have an idea of what a scientist does. A scientist is one who tests data, and information, to gather insights and information. A scientist is more technical and more specific. How many of us are true scientists? A good example of this is the data scientist. But, in a hypothetical organization of 10,000 people, how many would be data scientists? A small but vital portion.5. Engineer
Continuing on, our next role is an engineer. What does an engineer do? An engineer is one who does just that, engineers. An engineer is building and working to build the foundation of things, like a data engineer. The data engineer is building out the data structure for the organization. The analyst and scientist will be using this data.6. Developer
The next role is that of a developer. A developer by definition is: “A developer is an individual that builds and create software and applications. He or she writes, debugs and executes the source code of a software application.” Within an organization, the developer can be one who works on your own products and software. When you think about digital transformation, a developer can be a good ally who helps you with the software or transformation you are taking on. A developer is skilled technically.7. Business users
The last role we are discussing is that of an end or business user or consumer. These would constitute the largest contingent of employees in an organization. These are those who are a part of digital transformation and consuming the software, data, the transformation. This is a critical group because it is the largest group.8. Where do you fit in?
Overall, did you see yourself fitting into any of these roles? If so, which ones? Think about what role you may fit into. Each of these roles play a part in digital transformation. All need to adopt digital transformation in order to have success.9. Let's practice!
Now, time for some exercises to ensure the roles are sticking with you.Create Your Free Account
