Gemini in Google Sheets
1. Gemini in Google Sheets
2. Working with Gemini in Google Sheets
Let's now tackle Gemini in Google Sheets. My goal is to show you how Gemini may help you become a spreadsheet expert without learning all the formulas. Let's start with creation. Imagine you need to manage a project called "Q4 Coffee Launch", but you don't want to spend 20 minutes formatting columns. We are in a new spreadsheet. Click "Ask Gemini" at the top right, and write your own prompt. I will treat it like a request to an assistant. I type "Create a project tracker for a coffee product launch." Include columns for task, owner, status, deadline, priority, and notes. Look at that. It builds the entire structure. Just click "Insert," and it's ready to work. In the same way, you can also generate charts and graphs with Gemini. It's worth mentioning that we created this tab without any additional context, but as in Google Docs, you can feed Gemini with information from your Google Drive files, typing the @ symbol in your prompt, and adding relevant documents. Now, let's talk about formulas. Assume you need to calculate a bonus for sales over $5,000, but you don't remember the proper formula. We open a spreadsheet with financial results and ask in the Gemini side panel, "Create a formula that checks if cell C2 is greater than 5,000. If yes, multiply it by 10%. If not, show zero." And it outputs the exact formula. I don't have to type it. I just copy-paste it or click "Insert" and drag it down. You don't need to memorize formulas. You just need to know what question to ask. Following up, let's try a formula that allows you to unlock the AI potential in a new way. We have a spreadsheet with a list of our new coffee flavors, but we need catchy slogans for marketing materials. You don't need to brainstorm them. Just type "AI" in the cell and add the prompt. "Write a catchy three-word slogan for this flavor." Click the cell with the flavor name and close the bracket. I drag the formula down, and the Gemini fills every row with a unique slogan instantly. You can use the AI function to get information from the web, generate any text tailored to your data, summarize or categorize information, or even analyze sentiment based on customer reviews. And now let's check how Gemini works with analysis. Here I have a raw spreadsheet with hundreds of rows. Let's open the Gemini side panel and ask Gemini to summarize this data. It gives me a full summary of the content. But you can also ask something more specific. Let's type "Which product had the highest revenue in May?" and it gives me the exact answer. Gemini helps you understand your data using natural language. With that, you can quickly identify trends, key findings, and make informed decisions. Your action item: Open a spreadsheet, find some old data, and ask Gemini to find the top three trends. See what you discover.3. Let's practice!
