Publishing agents and channels
1. Publishing agents and channels
In this video, I'll show you how to publish an agent, and how to control where it appears and who can use it. The Customer Care Assistant works in the Test panel, but so far it's a private draft that only you can see. Copilot Studio keeps your draft separate from the published version other people talk to. You can tinker all week, and nobody sees a thing until you publish.2. Publish it
To push it live, select Publish, the outlined button next to Settings at the top right. The Publish this agent dialog has one checkbox, Force newest version. It only matters for conversations already running in Teams, so leave it unticked and select Publish. When it's done, the top bar reads Published with today's date. That's your proof this exact build is live. Publishing makes this version available on every channel the agent is connected to, but it doesn't hand the agent to anyone. Two separate levers decide who reaches it: the channels it appears on, and who's allowed in.3. Open Channels
A channel is where the agent shows up, like Teams. Open the Channels tab from the overflow button at the end of the tab row. The Published agent status card at the top confirms it is live, and the tiles below show where it can appear.4. Read the banner
The banner explains which tiles work. This agent uses Microsoft authentication, so people sign in with their work account, and only Microsoft channels are offered. The Demo website tile stays unavailable, because it's for agents anyone can reach without signing in. For a customer care pilot, the Microsoft 365 and Teams tile is where colleagues would meet it.5. Check who has access
The other lever is access. Open the three-dot menu beside Settings, and choose Share. Under Existing users, your own account is listed as Owner. Below it, select Everyone in organization. A new agent starts at No permissions, unless specified, so only you can use it. For a pilot, you'd add named colleagues under New users. That limits the agent to exactly those people, not their team or the whole company, which is what you want while you're still checking its answers. If you add five pilot testers and tell everyone it's live, a colleague outside that group still can't use it, and that gap is deliberate. You're only checking here, so select Cancel.6. Let's practice!
Now publish your own agent, find where colleagues would meet it, and check who can use it.Create Your Free Account
