Building area charts and legend controls
1. Building area charts and legend controls
Area charts are configured much the same way as a multi-line chart. We'll place [Call Date] on the x-axis, truncating to Month, set the y-axis to count [Call Id]. And add [Agent Team] to the color section to create the area slices. One major consideration for area charts is choosing how the color-coded slices of the area chart will be arranged. We've chosen a "stacked" style of area chart, so each team's share of calls received is stacked above the team below, and the cumulative total represents all calls received. Other options include stacking to 100% - which is great if a slice's share, and not its absolute value, is your major concern. Perhaps we have a workbook with two area charts color-coded by team, on the left a count of calls, on the right a sum of total minutes spent on calls. Each chart has its own legend set to the default color scheme, but what if we want to change the color for the Card Services team? Manually fixing it on both charts would be inefficient - so let's use a legend control to manage them both in one place. Right-clicking on a legend and choosing "Convert to legend control" removes it from the element and places it on the page as a legend control. By default the legend control impacts only the element it was created from. To connect it to additional charts, navigate to its "Targets" tab in the Properties panel. Click +Add interaction target to point the control at the second chart. Now the Legend control will impact both charts. Let's change the color for the Card Services Team to see that it will update in both charts.2. Let's practice!
Now it's your turn. In the next exercise, you’ll use area charts and legend controls to uncover patterns between fraud and specific merchants.Create Your Free Account
