Meet Copilot

1. Meet Copilot

Let's be honest: Right now, somewhere in your inbox, there's a document we need to read but haven't had time for.

2. The reality of work

On our desktop, there's a maybe draft

3. The reality of work

that we've tried to get right three times.

4. The reality of work

And we've got meetings coming up where we'll need to sound smart about yet another document we've barely had time to skim. This is what work looks like for most of us. Hours spent reading, writing, and rewriting in Microsoft Word. But here's what's changed: We now have an AI assistant built directly into Word. And it's designed to handle exactly these problems.

5. Meet Copilot in Word

Meet Copilot in Word. Copilot uses artificial intelligence to understand our documents and help us work faster. Think of it as a colleague, or assistant, who's read everything, writes quickly, and never gets tired.

6. Where can you find it

Now, Copilot shows up in a few different places in Word depending on what we're trying to do. In the next video, we’ll get familiar with all of those places. But right now, let's focus on a really powerful one.

7. Where can you find it

See this Copilot icon in your Home ribbon in Word?

8. Where can you find it

When we click it, a Chat pane opens on the right side. This is our direct line to Copilot. We can ask it questions, request summaries, ask for help with our writing, whatever we need.

9. Copilot's three superpowers

Copilot excels at three main jobs. First, Create. Need a draft? Copilot writes full documents, outlines, or rewrites what you’ve got making it more professional, more concise, or adjusting the tone.

10. Copilot's three superpowers

Second, Understand. Long contract? Messy notes? Copilot summarizes, answers questions, and pulls out what matters.

11. Copilot's three superpowers

Third, Collaborate. Conflicting feedback from multiple stakeholders? Copilot helps to respond, revise, and find the right balance.

12. Copilot brings the speed

Now, here's one thing to keep in mind: Copilot isn’t perfect. It might miss the mark every now and then, so we recommend you always review the suggestions before accepting them. So, think of it this way: You bring the judgment. Copilot brings the speed.

13. Imagine this

Let's see what this looks like in action. Imagine it's 8:50 in the morning. Our meeting starts at nine. Someone just sent us this eight-page document, and we need to walk into that meeting sounding prepared. Without Copilot, we'd be frantically scrolling. With Copilot? Watch this.

14. Imagine this

We click the Copilot icon. The Chat pane opens, and we type one simple question: "What are the three most important points in this document?" We press enter, and... A few seconds. That's all it took. Copilot read eight pages and gave us exactly what we need to contribute meaningfully to my meeting. We’re prepared and feeling confident. And we saved ourselves ten minutes of stress-reading. This is what Copilot does. It takes the work we'd normally do - the reading, the writing, the refining - and accelerates it.

15. Let's practice!

Now, we're going to practice when to use each of Copilot's three capabilities: we'll have a document, a deadline, and Copilot ready to help. Let’s go.
