Looking into the future

In time series forecasting, you're predicting a value over a period of time. How far you're looking into the future, depends on the horizon, the number of time units (like months) you're predicting values for in the future.

In the explorable, you can experiment with the effect of increasing the horizon (in months) on a forecast, by moving the slider. The x-axis represents the years, the y-axis represents the number of crimes. The gray bands are the confidence interval, which reflects the degree of uncertainty associated with the predictions (in blue).
