Common size statement

Instead of a balance sheet, let's build a common size statement for Year 2018 to indicate where assets and equity/liability are placed in the company.

You will use absolute referencing to create percentages for Column F. You should use the $ before the column letter and the column number to make sure the cell does not change when you copy over the formula.

Exercise instructions

  • Create the proportions for each row of the Assets section by selecting the 2018 column divided by E11.
  • Create the proportions for each row of the Equity and Liability sections by selecting the 2018 column divided by E25.
  • For the Total Liabilities and Equity row, in F25, divide the 2018 column by E25.
  • Highlight these numbers and click on the % symbol under Format to create percentages.
