Creating and formatting Story Points
1. Creating and formatting Story Points
In this screencast we're going to see how to create stories, how to format them, and how to annotate them. We're creating a Tableau story to present the insights derived from an analysis of the Divvy data. We're going to leverage dashboards that were previously built - so we have these visualizations brought together in this dashboard, focusing on customers, as well as an intro dashboard and a dashboard presenting the data. Now we click Add story, name it Customer story, we set the size to automatic so it automatically adjusts to the screen size, and we uncheck Show Title. We currently have one story point open, and we can create new blank ones, or duplicates. Let's add two new blank ones. So a quick checkpoint on terminology: this is a story, these are story points, and this is the navigator. Now that we have our story points we can drag the dashboards in their context, so we drag our Intro dashboard here, our presentation of the data here, and our visualizations here. Now let's rename the story points, to Introduction to Divvy, Divvy Data Description, and Usage by Gender. While we're at it let's format our story points. In the layout pane we can choose different styles. We access more formatting features by clicking Format / Story, and we can modify the navigator shading, as well as the story points font and shading. Then, we can modify the viz as well, for example let's drag Saturday back up here. You already know how to add area annotation, so let's focus on mark annotations. We're going to show the peak usage on the network during WEs, here at 2PM, by right clicking and then Annotate, and select Mark. Let's edit the text a little bit. Now we can format it by right clicking on it and selecting Format. Let's bold the font, maybe make it bigger, round the edges, and show an arrow at the end of the line. And then we could do the same for weekdays at 5PM. Interestingly on Fridays the peak usage happens an hour earlier - we could add a textbox to highlight this.2. Let's practice!
