Dashboard objects and actions

1. Dashboard objects and actions

Welcome back! You have familiarized yourself with building dashboards. Let's take a look at how you can enhance those dashboards even further.

2. Dashboard objects

One way to that is by adding dashboard objects.

3. Dashboard objects

The objects can be found in the lower left corner of the dashboard view.

4. Dashboard objects

We've used Text objects before to add text fields. Another interesting object is the Image object. This will allow you to add images to the dashboard. Generally, this is used to add logos. The last type of object we'll introduce in this course is containers. These can be found in the Objects section under the Horizontal and Vertical keywords.

5. Containers

Layout containers let you group related dashboard items together so you can quickly position them. As you change the size and placement of items inside a container, other container items automatically adjust. There are two types of container: horizontal and vertical containers. A horizontal layout container resizes the width of the views and objects it contains; a vertical layout container adjusts height.

6. Dashboard actions

Another way to enhance your dashboard is to add context and interactivity to your data using actions. We'll be taking a closer look at filter actions. Filter actions send information between worksheets. Usually, you'll want to make sure the filter cards shown to users filter the data on all the relevant worksheets in your dashboard. Additionally, you'll sometimes want the worksheets in your dashboard to filter based on a selection made in another visualization.

Let's practice what you just learned!
