1. Use your market basket skills!
Good job, you have completed the course. You are now ready to apply your Market Basket skills on to a range of various problems. There is a wide range of applications and this kind of technique can be very useful in practice.
2. Recap of market basket analysis
Remember what we have covered in this course.
First of all, we introduced Market Basket Analysis as a technique that can be used in various domains and for a wide range of applications.
In Chapter 2, Metrics related to Market Basket Analysis were introduced with support, confidence and lift measures being the main metrics used to characterize association mining rules.
In chapter 3, we leveraged the use of both "arules" and "arulesViz"packages to learn how to create informative and nice plots for both frequent itemsets and rules.
Finally,in the last chapter, we saw how to apply an end to end analysis of Market Basket on a movie recommendation case study.
3. Other points to consider with MBA
The scope of this course was limited to the classical understanding of Market Basket Analysis. We have for instance not considered time dimension such as the time when the transaction was done or even the information when a user watched a movie. Looking at transactions as a sequence of transactions can provide different information and therefore could influence recommendations.
Moreover, we did not use any qualitative assessment of transactions such as movie ratings for instance.
A last word of caution when it comes to apply Market Basket Analysis in R- remember to use sorting options, do not blindly print rules at the console and rather use small subsets of rules at the first place.
4. Congratulations!
With these last word of caution, I congratulate you in completing this course. I hope you have learned a new range of skills and are ready to apply these skills in whatever domain passionates you.
