Centralized Cluster Management

1. Centralized Cluster Management

GKE is a tool to help you manage your clusters that are running in Google Cloud, but GKE can also assist with clusters running across multiple providers, offering consistent configuration, security, and management. With GKE, you can manage your clusters in one place, regardless of where they're located. From running clusters in Google Cloud, to Azure AKS, or AWS EKS, GKE provides a comprehensive, centralized, and fully managed Kubernetes experience. It can even be used for on-premises environments and edge locations, but this course focuses on hybrid and multi-cloud configurations. Think of an operating system. It provides a consistent interface and set of tools for managing different hardware and software components. Similarly, GKE acts as an operating system for your Kubernetes clusters, providing a unified platform for managing and configuring them consistently across different environments. To benefit from additional features like Cloud Service Mesh, Policy Controller, and Config Controller, you must register your GKE clusters with a GKE fleet. GKE clusters can leverage the Connect Gateway with your Google ID to authenticate a cluster with support for third-party identity providers using Workforce Identity Federation and with group-based authentication support via GKE Identity Service.
