Welcome to Introduction to Microsoft Fabric! My name is Alex, I am a technical instructional designer, and I’ll be your instructor for this course. We’re very excited to bring you this interactive course covering the basics of Microsoft Fabric. In this video, we’ll walk you through the goals of this course and give you a preview of what’s to come.

2. Course Goals

The goal of this course is to gain a high-level understanding of what Fabric is, what it is used for, and who might use it. The tools within Fabric are broken into several workloads, and we'll cover the basics of each one.

3. Lakehouses and Power BI

For example, we’ll show you how to create and add data to a Lakehouse and then use Python notebooks to interact with that data. We'll also show you how Power BI is integrated into Fabric.

4. Prerequisites?

Let’s talk prerequisites - is this course right for you? We just mentioned tools like Power BI and Python. Fear not, you don’t need any experience with these tools in order to be successful in this course. Even if you aren’t familiar with Python or Power BI, we’ll make sure that you'll leave this course with an undertanding of how those tools relate to Fabric. That being said, you might want to have a basic understanding of common responsibilities of a data professional. For example, if you don't know what it means to query a database, or if you've never seen a dashboard from a BI tool, there might be some terminology that you're unfamiliar with.

5. Course Format

Finally, let’s talk format - how will this course work? At DataCamp, we believe that you learn best by doing! To that end, this course is fully interactive. You will work directly in a Fabric account that we’ve set up for you inside of DataCamp. Immediately after this video you’ll dive into an exercise to orient yourself to your Fabric account.
