Adoption and skilling

1. Adoption and skilling

Welcome to the final lesson! We learned a lot about an AI solution and, at a high level, how to go about building one. We will finish this course with a lesson on what happens after the technical parts.

2. Moving past POC stage

Most companies never move past the POC stage.

3. Moving past POC stage

On top of that, only 10% of companies gained financial benefits from AI, based on a 2020 study.

4. Why?

Why is this? Still today, the companies that do see financial benefits and sustained value realize that building an AI solution not only requires alignment with business metrics,

5. Why?

putting together a strong project team,

6. Why?

building the appropriate infrastructure,

7. Why?

and developing a solid AI algorithm. It also requires intentional change management processes,

8. Why?

adaptations to the culture of the business,

9. Why?

and upskilling or reskilling of the workforce.

10. Resistance to AI

AI, especially generative AI, is being met with concern. Over three-quarters of people surveyed in a 2023 survey by Forbes think AI will lead to human job loss. New AI solutions may not be readily adopted by everyone in the business. People resist change. A new AI solution introduces changes to their established processes and potentially threatens their roles. Businesses can address these concerns through transparent communication early on in the process articulating what is being built, the benefits to the employee, and how the company views their role with AI.

11. Change management

Change management is a set of processes designed to successfully implement new initiatives such as AI solutions. It is an essential part for ensuring integration, utilization, and further AI success. An effective change management plan will include - all involved roles and groups,

12. Change management

clear roles and responsibilities including new roles which may need to be created to ensure continued success,

13. Change management

detailed integration plans,

14. Change management

assessment on impact to existing processes, roles, and systems as well as plans to ensure the impact is not of a negative nature,

15. Change management

training,

16. Change management

and, finally, communication of all these components.

17. Intentional updates to culture

Many companies believe that disruptive technology, like AI, can simply be an addition to their established processes. Successful companies will realize their processes will need to adapt to fully adopt and benefit from AI. This includes encouraging a culture that embraces innovation, continuous learning, and augmentation. Focus on experimentation to unlock new opportunities. Use the best practices on use case and business value identification to ensure POCs can be matured to full solutions. Everyone should think about how AI will catapult their business forward in the current, and future, marketplace - do new things, rather than think about how it can help you do more of existing tasks with less.

18. Upskilling

Many believe AI is going to change the way we work. Skilling at all levels is a huge determinant on the long-term success of a business with AI. Knowledgeable employees can use the AI to uplevel their work and realize the goal of augmentation and business value. An upskilling program should focus on everyone in the company who is impacted by the AI solutions. If the culture shift is successful, that will be everyone. Create opportunities for training on using the new tools, data literacy, developing AI, and responsible AI.

19. Let's practice!

Continuous learning will be a mandate as AI continues to evolve and drive technological changes. It will also be an important determinant in successful adoption and implementation.
