Overview of AI

1. Overview of AI

Welcome! In this course, we will obtain a better understanding of how artificial intelligence, or AI, can bring value to business. We will learn best practices on how to integrate it into existing or new systems and processes.

2. What is AI?

What exactly is AI? AI refers to the development of computer systems that can perform tasks that normally require human intelligence, such as perception, reasoning, learning, and decision-making.

3. The Evolution of AI

Over the years, AI has evolved through several stages.

4. The Evolution of AI

The first major development was Symbolic AI. This approach, which dominated the field in the 1960s and 1970s, focused on representing knowledge as symbols and rules that could be manipulated by computers.

5. The Evolution of AI

Next was Connectionist AI. In the 1980s and 1990s, researchers developed models inspired by the structure and function of the human brain. These models allowed computers to learn from data and make decisions based on patterns and associations.

6. The Evolution of AI

This was followed by machine learning. This approach, which emerged in the 2000s, uses statistical algorithms to enable computers to learn from data and improve their performance over time.

7. The Evolution of AI

Finally, we have deep learning. This is a more recent development in AI that uses artificial neural networks to analyze and process complex data, such as images, speech, and natural language.

8. Types of applications for AI

Today, AI is used in a wide range of applications, including image processing,

9. Types of applications for AI

speech recognition,

10. Types of applications for AI

natural language processing,

11. Types of applications for AI

autonomous vehicles,

12. Types of applications for AI

and robotics.

13. Types of applications for AI

In fact, it is used every day when a text message autocorrects. As AI continues to evolve, it is likely to have an even greater impact on society and the economy in the years to come.

14. The key elements of an AI strategy

AI is already finding more and more applications in business, due to advances in technology. So, there are even more ways to begin extracting value from AI. Doing so successfully requires thoughtful strategy and intentional implementation. There are four key elements of a strong AI strategy. The first is "Vision". The goals of an AI solution should tie into the overall goals of the business. The AI system should also push the business towards the direction outlined in its vision documents. Be clear about success metrics and the role of AI here.

15. The key elements of an AI strategy

Risks, specifically, assessing exposure to risk and building a mitigation plan is important. We will discuss this more during the lesson on Responsible AI.

16. The key elements of an AI strategy

Third is an Action Plan. Implementing an AI solution will lead to changes to processes, systems, people, and possibly business models. Make sure to have a high level framework on how change management will occur, goals for upskilling, and evaluation for other business changes.

17. The key elements of an AI strategy

Finally, "Buy-in". An AI implementation will involve a lot of teams. Make sure each is on board and evangelizing the solution to their peers and leadership.

18. The 5 phases of an AI implementation

There are five phases of an AI solution implementation. At its core, it is similar to implementing any type of technology. With that said, there are different types of questions to be answered and specifics to be determined when designed. In this course, we will speak to implementing an AI solution in the following phases. "Education" or understanding what AI is and use cases it is great for; "Identification" or determining which business use case is right for AI; "Proof of Concept" or building out a small scale AI solution to test and learn; "Scale" or implementing a full AI solution; and finally, "Align Culture and Skills" on the change processes and upskilling required to leverage the AI solution.

19. Let's practice!

Organizations that move to embrace AI can unleash creativity, unlock productivity and uplevel skills for everyone – ushering in a new wave of growth and value creation. Congrats on starting your journey!
