Inserting objects into Slides

1. Inserting objects into Slides

Adding audio and video to a slide can enhance the story the presentation is created to tell. To add a video, open the Insert menu and select Video. Choose your video from Google Drive, a YouTube search, or a direct URL. To add an audio file, open the Insert menu and select Audio. Audio files have to be stored in Google Drive. Slides supports the playback of both MP3 and WAV files. Like any object, you can place the audio and video anywhere on the slide. Video and audio objects also have several formatting options. After you have added the object, right click on the video or audio to open the Format Options panel. For videos, you can change the start and end times for playback, choose whether to autoplay the video when presenting the slide, and choose whether to also play the audio if the video has it. For audio files, you can choose whether to have the audio play automatically when presenting the slide or to play only when selected. If the audio is set to play automatically, the audio icon can be hidden on the slide. You can set the volume of the audio along with whether to loop it and whether it should stop playing when the slide is not being presented. Adding a chart from Google Sheets to a presentation creates a dynamic connection to the data in the spreadsheet. After you insert the chart, it can be updated with a click if the data in the original spreadsheet is modified. To add a chart, select Insert, hover over Chart, and select From Sheets. Select the spreadsheet from the search box and then select a chart from the spreadsheet. Google Slides has several options for creating diagrams to present data and information on the slide. Open the Insert menu and select Diagram to open the diagrams panel to choose a type. Options include grid, hierarchy, timeline, process, relationship and cycle. Select a type and then choose the number of levels for the diagram along with the primary color. Select the thumbnail preview of the diagram to insert it into the slide. After the diagram is on the slide, it can be dragged to a position. Double click on the diagram to begin editing the text.
