Accessing and Using Google Vids

1. Accessing and Using Google Vids

There are a few ways to create a new Google Vid, but you'll need to use a computer since Vids is only available for viewing on mobile devices at this time. Perhaps the simplest way to create a new project is to type vids.new into your browser's address bar. This will also be the only way you can access the Help Me Create feature, which lets you use the power of Gemini to generate a first draft for your video. Vids is available in your Google Drive. Click Plus New and select Google Vids. You can also open Vids from the app launcher in Drive. To do this, click Google Apps and select Vids. You may need to scroll to find Vids. To see only your Vids files without other files from your drive, go to vids.google.com. To create a new video, click the Plus icon. If you haven't done so already, go ahead and create a new Vids project. On the home screen accessed on vids.new, you'll have a quick access menu with options to create a new video with AI, use templates, record video directly in the Vids recording studio, or upload your own media. You'll learn more about these options in other videos. For now, you can click Close to exit this dialog. Now that you know how to access Google Vids, let's take a quick tour of the editor. At the top, you'll find the main menu with familiar options like File, Edit, and View. Below that is the toolbar, where you can access tools for editing and enhancing your video. The right rail displays options for customizing and adding content to your scenes such as text, media, recordings, scripts, and more. Now let's look at the timeline at the bottom of the editor. This is where you'll arrange and edit the scenes in your video. Each rectangle in the timeline represents a scene similar to a slide in a presentation. You can easily reorder scenes by dragging them to a new position in the timeline. You can also adjust the duration of a scene by dragging its edge. This allows you to shorten or lengthen a scene as needed. The blue line moving across the timeline is called the playhead. It indicates the current position in the video during playback or editing. That's a quick overview of the Google Vids editor. You'll become more familiar with these features as you continue through the course and start creating your own videos. Get ready to unleash your creativity and make some amazing videos.
