Drift happens when an agent's responses gradually become outdated or inconsistent - not because something broke, but because policies changed while instructions stayed the same.

Set a 30-minute monthly review. Check five things: Policy alignment: Did anything update? Test with current questions. Language drift: Do responses match your latest handbook? Edge cases: Review your log for recurring weak spots. Scope creep: Is the system handling requests it wasn't designed for? Instruction accuracy: Do configuration rules still reflect current operations? This isn't a project. It's maintenance.

New policy announced? Update your AI systems first - before employees start asking about it. Test with realistic questions, especially edge cases. If the system can't handle them accurately, narrow its scope temporarily or route those questions to humans until you can update properly.

5. Teamwork

Find one other person who can quarterly spot-check your systems. Give them five realistic scenarios. Ask them to flag confusion, surprises, or moments they'd prefer a human. Two perspectives catch more blind spots than one.

Fix the configuration immediately. Document what happened and what changed. Then communicate clearly with affected employees: "We noticed [system] provided outdated guidance about [topic]. Here's the current policy." Transparency repairs trust. Silence erodes it.
