Creating a zero-copy clone
Claro's data team runs a month-end batch job that recalculates credit scores for all active users. Before the job starts, the team wants a point-in-time snapshot of the REPAYMENTS table they can query independently if discrepancies emerge — without doubling storage costs. Snowflake's zero-copy clone creates an independent table that shares the source's underlying micro-partitions until data in either table diverges. As the data engineer on call, you'll create the clone, verify it matches the source, and confirm what zero-copy means for the storage bill.
