String distances of short strings

Imagine we perform a stringdist_join() with a maximum string distance max_dist of 2. In our dataset we have the names "amy" and "max". What problems could we run into?

Very short strings are no problem when it comes to fuzzy matching.

These names have a string distance of 2. When we join the tables, these names will match, although they are obviously quite different.

The length of a string does not have any implications at all.
