Superstore data: variance

The standard deviation (SD) is calculated as the square root of the variance. Variance is less commonly used than the SD, and is not displayed on the summary card. Alternatively, Tableau let's you calculate the variance as an aggregation method instead. Remember that, similar to the standard deviation, variance can be calculated using the sample or population formulas. In this exercise, you'll see how much these two calculations of variance can differ.
