The Value of Diff Mode

1. The Value of Diff Mode

The SQL query on the left side of the screen has a few issues and is not working as expected. So naturally, you ask Snowflake CoCo to fix it. Now keep a close eye on the SQL as CoCo makes its changes. Did you see that? You probably noticed that some of the code changed. But were you able to notice what the change was? In fact, CoCo may have made multiple changes. But it can be pretty difficult to see what they are. Were all of the changes ones you wanted, or did CoCo go beyond what you asked? It's not easy to tell. Fortunately, what you just saw is not how CoCo actually works. Let's rewind and see how CoCo actually functions when it makes changes to your code. In reality, when Snowflake CoCo makes changes to your file, it will let you know of these changes in two ways. It will usually give an overview of the changes it makes within its response. This response will often explain why it made each change. But more noticeably, it displays a Diff Mode in the actual file. Every changed line is highlighted in red or green. Red shows a line that has been removed. Green shows a line that has been added. As you can see here, oftentimes there is both a red and green line together. This shows how a line has been replaced. This makes it much easier to see every single change that CoCo has made. Not only that, but you can go through and decide which changes you want to keep and which you want to reject.
