Generating Slide Visuals with Copilot
1. Generating Slide Visuals with Copilot
Welcome back! You've used prompts to generate structured slide decks to deliver your message with a clear narrative. Now, let's make those slides visually engaging! We'll explore how Copilot can help you design slides, add images, and transform your deck into a story that your audience remembers.2. Why Visuals Matter
Think about the last presentation that grabbed your attention. It probably wasn't because of dense slide text or bullet points — it was likely either the delivery style of the speaker or the slide design. Because Copilot can't yet deliver your presentations for you, we'll focus on the latter: using Copilot to optimize slide design. Copilot can help you create real visual impact, whether by generating imagery, reorganizing layouts, or suggesting icons and SmartArt automatically. Let's begin by using Copilot to generate images!3. Adding Visuals with Copilot
To do this, we'll use another Copilot button, found in the toolbar rather than the slide. We'll refer to this as the "Copilot sidecar", as the interface appears to the side of our slides. Where the "shooting star" button was used for creating presentations from scratch, this button can be used to chat with your presentation. You can ask for presentation summaries, question the findings, and create accompanying visuals, which we'll do here. For example, we can request an image of a fully-charged battery for the presentation. Copilot creates the image, and when we hover over it, we see three icons appear: Insert into slide, Copy for manual placement, and Information for attribution details.4. Exploring Attribution and Choosing a Design
Images created by the Copilot sidecar are always AI-generated, and Copilot clearly shows when and how it was created in the attribution details, adding transparency to our design process. Always check that the image attribution is appropriate for your context, especially in public or client decks. We can then insert the image, resize it, and move it like any other image!5. Follow-Up Prompts for Better Visual Storytelling
We don't have to stop at this image either. We can refine visuals with follow-up prompts, or request captions or taglines to accompany them. We can even ask Copilot for advice on placement.6. Design Layouts
PowerPoint's design layouts are also fully-integrated into Copilot, so we can receive smart suggestions and update our slide layouts in a single click.7. When to Override Copilot's Suggestions
Copilot is powerful, but with slide design, your judgment matters most.8. When to Override Copilot's Suggestions
Sometimes, its design or color choices may not fit your brand or9. When to Override Copilot's Suggestions
accessibility standards. Ultimately, it's up to you to refine the details to ensure that it matches your story, your brand, and your audience.10. Design Prompts
In the Copilot sidecar, we can request particular colors using their hex codes, updates fonts, or make broader statements like "review the text colors to ensure there is a strong contrast with the background". Copilot gets to work and provides us with a new slide deck which we can open to compare to the original.11. Let's practice!
Now it's time for you to get some practice with designing visually compelling slides with Copilot!Create Your Free Account
