Choosing a measure
Selecting the correct measure of center is essential when describing a typical value of the data being observed. When a distribution is symmetrical, the mean and median will be very close together, meaning both measures accurately describe the data.
An app has been provided showing histograms of crime counts across London boroughs. Use the dropdown to switch between crime types and observe where the mean and median lines fall on each distribution.
Which crime type can be equally well described by both the mean and the median?
