Use of labels
In data storytelling, the text is just as important as the visual elements of a chart.
There are many ways in which labels can be included in a plot and help your audience understand the contents of your data visualization and aid the story being told.
- Title: The title conveys the main message of the chart and helps the viewer understand the topic at a high level.
- Subtitle: The subtitle provides additional context or a more specific focus to the chart, further clarifying the information presented in the title.
- Caption: The caption briefly describes the chart or provides additional information that might help the viewer understand the data presented.
- Annotations: Annotations highlight specific data points or trends within the chart and provide additional context to help the viewer understand the significance of those points or trends.
- Data labels: Data labels display the actual values of data points within the chart and can help the viewer understand the specifics of the presented data.
Before answering the question, play around a bit with the possible labels in the plot.
