Measures of center

One of the quickest ways to explore a dataset is by calculating summary statistics. There are three main types of summary statistics:

  • Measures of center
  • Measures of variance
  • Measures of frequency

In this exercise, you'll calculate two different types of measures of center: the mean and median. You'll also investigate the dataset further to find the smallest and largest natural satellites in the Solar System.

Exercise instructions

  • In F6:G6, calculate the mean of the Mean radius (km) and Sidereal period (days) of the moons.
  • In F7:G7, calculate the median of the Mean radius (km) and Sidereal period (days).
  • In F8:G8, find the maximum Mean radius (km) and Sidereal period (days).
  • In F8:G8, find the minimum Mean radius (km) and Sidereal period (days).
