Ingesting data from other data systems using connectors
1. Ingesting data from other data systems using connectors
You won't always have direct access to the data that you want to ingest into Snowflake. In fact, that data may be housed in an entirely different data system. And by different data system, I'm not necessarily referring to cloud object storage integrations. I'm referring to entirely different platforms or databases, ones that you might not have direct access to. This scenario presents its own unique set of challenges. This is where Snowflake Native Connectors are great options. Snowflake Native Connectors provide native integration of third-party applications and database systems in Snowflake. They allow you to access data in other systems without the need to manually integrate against API endpoints. Data automatically refreshes based on your desired frequency in your Snowflake account. Many of the connectors are in the form of Snowflake Native Applications, which means you can find them on the Snowflake Marketplace. Let me quickly demonstrate where you can find connectors. And by the way, you won't need to follow along in this video. I just quickly want to touch on this additional and powerful method for ingesting data into Snowflake. There are a couple of ways to browse connector offerings. The first is to navigate to the Add Data section of the data section in the sidebar of your account. Here, you can browse a few of the connectors available to you. If you click on one, you'll be taken to the Connectors landing page in the Snowflake Marketplace. But you don't have to start there. You can also click on More Connectors, or simply navigate to the Snowflake Marketplace and discover more connectors there, similar to how you would discover datasets. You'd find a relevant connector, perhaps read its listing page, and install the connector in your account, which you can then configure based on your use case. Again, I won't demonstrate how to set up any one specific connector, as they can each have their own unique requirements. But I did want to take a little time to highlight that there are ways of ingesting data into Snowflake from other data systems and databases using connectors. Coming up, let's recap all of what you've learned about ingestion so far.2. Let's practice!
