Classifying BigQuery components
BigQuery has three core groups of architectural elements: one group for storage, one for building the query execution, and one for moving data and managing compute. These three groups together allow BigQuery to scale to very large data volumes. Within each group are several other core elements allowing those groups to perform their jobs.
