Getting started with Azure security
1. Getting started with Azure security
Welcome to Azure Security for Developers!2. Meet Anushika
Hello, I’m Anushika Agarwal, an Azure Cloud Engineer and Instructor at DataCamp. I’ve worked extensively on securing cloud applications and guiding teams in adopting Microsoft Azure. With my certifications and hands-on experience, I’m here to make your Azure security journey practical and impactful.3. Prerequisites
If you're new to Azure, I recommend completing the "Microsoft Azure Fundamentals" Track on DataCamp first. It provides a solid foundation that will help you throughout this learning journey.4. Why security matters
Think of security as the seatbelt for your cloud journey as it keeps your apps, data, and users safe. Even small mistakes, like exposing a secret or misconfiguring access, can cause serious problems such as data leaks, downtime, or breaches. This course will help you build secure and reliable apps in Azure. If you’re preparing for certification, these lessons fit well with the Microsoft Azure Developer Associate objectives.5. Building blocks of Azure cecurity
In this course, these are the key Azure security foundations we’ll cover. We’ll start with Microsoft Entra ID, the service that controls who can sign in and what they’re allowed to do. Then, we’ll cover the Microsoft Identity Platform, which helps apps prove their identity and request access securely. After that, you’ll learn about Azure Key Vault, a safe place to store sensitive information.6. Secure access & communication
After covering the core security foundations, we’ll now explore how Azure enables secure communication between services and people. We’ll start with Shared Access Signatures, which let you share temporary access to your data. Then, we’ll look at Managed Identities, so your apps can connect with other services securely without using any credentials. And finally, Microsoft Graph, a simple and powerful way to automate identity related tasks like managing users and permissions. You’ll get hands-on experience with these tools in the Azure portal, step by step.7. Meet PeopleSphere
Let’s meet the company we’ll be using as our running example. PeopleSphere is a fictional SaaS provider that builds HR software for organizations. Their platform includes an HR portal for employees, payroll management, employee records, leave requests, and compliance tools. Throughout this course, we’ll return to PeopleSphere examples. You’ll see how Azure services like Entra ID, Key Vault, and Microsoft Graph help secure, manage, and connect their HR systems in real-world ways.8. Let's practice!
