Classify observability concepts
Observability rests on three pillars, and each answers a different question. Logs are discrete, timestamped events that describe what happened. Metrics are numeric measurements aggregated over time that tell you how much or how fast. Traces follow a single request as it travels across services so you can see where time was spent end to end. Sort each signal into the pillar it belongs to.
