Selecting candidates for interviews

A hiring manager at a tech company is tasked with selecting candidates for interviews for a software engineering position. The manager receives 500 applications for the position. However, due to time constraints, they can only interview 50 candidates. To make the selection process more efficient, the manager decides to only consider applicants who graduated from the top 20 universities in the country, assuming that these candidates are the most qualified.

Identify the selection bias present in the hiring manager's approach to selecting candidates for interviews.
