Calculate Adjusted Scales
It's important to understand how rstanarm
calculates adjusted scales for prior distributions, as priors can have a large impact on our estimates if not used in an appropriate manner. Calculate what the adjusted scales should be using the already loaded songs
data.
This exercise is part of the course
Bayesian Regression Modeling with rstanarm
Exercise instructions
- Calculate the adjusted scale of the intercept.
- Calculate the adjusted scale of the
song_age
. - What would be the adjusted scale of
valence
if it were in the model?

Have a go at this exercise by completing this sample code.
# Calculate the adjusted scale for the intercept
___ * sd(songs$___)
# Calculate the adjusted scale for `song_age`
(___ / sd(songs$___)) * sd(songs$___)
# Calculate the adjusted scale for `valence`
(___ / sd(songs$___)) * sd(songs$___)
