Managing dashboards
1. Managing dashboards
In this demo, we'll focus on key skills to manage your dashboards efficiently. Specifically, we'll cover three essential operations: cloning, exporting, and deleting dashboards - helping you streamline your workflow. Let's get started! First, log in to your Databricks workspace. To access existing dashboards, navigate to the 'Dashboards' section in the sidebar. For this demo, we'll open the '4_1_demo' dashboard. Keep in mind that you can only clone, export, or delete dashboards while in 'draft' view. We'll begin with cloning. Cloning a dashboard allows you to create a duplicate, which is great for experimenting with changes or customizing without affecting the original version. To clone a dashboard, click the kebab menu (the three dots) in the top-right corner of the dashboard, select 'Clone,' enter a new name, and click 'Confirm'. An identical dashboard would be created automatically. Next, let's talk about exporting. Exporting a dashboard saves it in a portable format for offline use or sharing outside Databricks. Just open the same menu in the top-right corner, select 'Export Dashboard,' name your file, and click 'Save.' This will download a JSON file of your dashboard to your local machine. If you want to import a dashboard back into Databricks, go to the 'Dashboards' section from the sidebar, click 'Create Dashboard' in the upper right, and choose 'Import Dashboard from File.' Follow the prompts to complete the upload process. Finally, let's cover deleting dashboards. Keeping your workspace clean is crucial for productivity. To delete a dashboard, open it, click the kebab menu in the top-right corner, and select 'Move to Trash.' This action removes the dashboard from editing or sharing availability. To restore or permanently delete a dashboard from the Trash, navigate to the Trash page in the Databricks workspace. From there, you can choose to restore the dashboard, permanently delete it, or empty the Trash entirely. Now, it's your turn to practice.2. Let's practice!
