Congratulations!

1. Congratulations!

Congrats! You have successfully completed the case study on data storytelling! Let's recap.

2. Stories are all around us

We started out discussing how universal stories are in our everyday life, including film, gaming, television, books, and even essays.

3. Why tell stories

Hopefully, you now understand what makes a data story mature or well developed, why it's important to learn, and what makes one worth telling in the first place. You've also learned how data stories come about in a business setting, and how it fits into a data analyst's daily tasks. You've also learned how data storytelling can assist with team engagement and communication.

4. Elements of data storytelling

We explored the 6 most common elements of data storytelling, which can help guide you as you plan and design your narrative. It's also important to note that sometimes, each element can appear and reappear throughout your process, especially if your requirements change, or your main point evolves.

5. Narrative arc, assemble!

We also learned that building a story arc is not so different from those on screen. Our elements are like a checklist of scenes that should occur during the story, but the arc is our guiding light for when and where to include content. In your journey as a data analyst, you'll learn that creating data story arcs can be an uphill battle, especially as the project develops, but this is completely normal. The Narrative Arc is a valuable tool to ensure you stay on track.

6. Presenting insights

Lastly, we discussed how to actually fish out insights from available data, as well as how to present them in a meaningful way. It's not always obvious how to convey insights as it oftentimes depends on the context, audience, metrics, and goals. However, key performance indicators, or KPIs are excellent for measuring and tracking performance, while visualizations are great at showing audiences those measures with additional context.

7. Course recommendations

If you enjoyed this course, or would like to continue your data storytelling journey, I recommend the following DataCamp courses. While this course allows you to practice the fundamentals of data storytelling, these courses will provide more detail on the communication and statistics piece. Furthermore, if you want to master your visualization craft, DataCamp has tons of courses to choose from, regardless of your tool of preference.

8. Thank you!

I hope you enjoyed this introductory case study to data storytelling, and good luck to your data journey.
