Analyzing votes and demographic data

Let's try to answer the question of whether whiter areas of the country are more Republican. Obviously, this is not the only variable that matters to voters (all whites aren't Republican, all Latinos are Democratic, etc.), but it will turn out to be a helpful guide.

  • Graph the percentage white and Democratic vote share of each US county in a scatterplot.
  • The x-axis should be how white each county is while the y-axis should be the Democratic share of the vote there.
  • You should use points to represent each county.
