The "why" question for Brexit

As in the United States, there are powerful associations between demographics and political attitudes. In the aftermath of the Brexit referendum, many analysts believed that non-college educated voters and those inclined toward the Conservatives and UKIP were the ones that tipped the scales toward Leave. Your task now is to assess that claim.

  • Use a linear model to assess the relationship between a constituency's share of UKIP voters in the 2015 parliamentary elections, ukip_2015, and how many of its voters have a college degree, degree.
  • Generate a summary of that model output and inspect model estimates and p-values to assess whether the conventional wisdom about Brexit is true: did non-college educated UKIP voters win the Remain campaign?
